She Lived In England, (From 9 Years Old When Her Mother Died), Before She Married William Shipley (In 1911) And Was A Trained Seamstress. When She Left England In C1909, Attracted By Advertising About The West Of Canada, She Took Her Treadle Singer Sewing Machine With Her. During Her Years On The Farm In Minto, Mb And In The Homestead In The Bush 38 Miles North East Of Ste. Rose, Mb. (Guynemer), And On A Farm In Grandview Area, And In Mafeking, Mb., She Sewed Clothes For The Family Including Overalls, Workshirts, Moccasins From Tanned Moose Hides She Bought From The Indians, And Sewed By Hand With Harness Maker'S Hemp Waxed With Beeswax. She Took, Developed (At Night In The Log Cabin At Guynemer, Mb.) And Preserved Many Photographs Of Her Family. She Was A Faithful Letter Writer And Kept In Touch With All Branches Of The Shipley Family. She And Her Daughter Janie Exchanged Letters Nearly Every Week For Some Forty Years Until She Died In A Nursing Home In British Columbia. The Distance From The Farm At Minto To The Homestead At Guynemer Was Approxiamately 180 Miles And The Journey Took About 10 Days Each Way. This Was A "Cock Of The Northline" Outfit. The Name "American Abell Wind Stacker" Can Be Seen On The Side Of The Separator And The Rooster Can Be Seen On The Front Of The Engine. Stewart And Harry Shipley With Their Father William Shipley (Slouch Hat And Mustache) Near The Front Of The Engine Can Be Seen . Roy Coventry (In The Centre Of The Photo) On The Separator Is Holding An Oil Can. Harry Coventry (On The Right) Holding A Horse (Team). He Was Kicked By One Of The Horses In This Team Later And Died From The Results Of The Kick. Dan Fletcher Is The First On The Left Of The Photo. 58975 A1810 Shipley Collection     This Photo Was Taken Inside The Log Cabin At The Homestead At Guynemer, Mb. At Night In The Winter Of 1920. It Was Taken At Night By Pouring Magnesium Powder In A Holding Tray And Igniting It And Then Snapping The Camera As The Magnesium Flared Up. It Shows The Interior Of Willliam Shipley'S First Log House (Cabin) Built On The Homestead With A Post In The Middle To Hold Up The Sod Roof. A Tin Heater Is Shown With A Straight Stove- Pipe Out Through The Roof. 58992 A1810 Shipley Collection     William (Bill) Shipley'S Second Threshing Outfit And Gang. There Are About Thirty People Including Two Women And A Child On The Load Of Sheaves Near The Separator. Bill Shipley Owned And Operated This Outfit From Approximately 1905 To 1915. Note The Blower Or Wind Stacker On The Separator Rather Than The Straw Carrier On His His Previous Threshing Outfit. The Normal Complement To Run This Outfit Efficiently Was 21 Or 22 Men. They Were As Follows: 8 Men With Teams Hauling Sheaves; 4 (Men) As Pitchers In The Field; 2 (Men) As Spike Pitchers At The Separator; 2 Or 3 Men Hauling Water For The Engine Depending On The Distance; 2 Men Hauling Grain; 1 Engine Fireman; One Engine Operator; And 1 Separator Operator.
